User-generated content challenge
To get a link between the three testbeds Oslo, Cologne, Engerwitzdorf and advance the international community in the project the following UGC-challenge should take place and bring together all testbed participants.
The UGC-Challenge is a concept for a media-competition that was derived from the co-design process in Engerwitzdorf. There, the heads of local clubs affirmed their support of the CITIZEN MEDIA project only under the condition that the most important social issues of the community be addressed:
- Get to know each other.
- Create a sense of community.
- Integrate different generations.
In this media-competition, users from Oslo, Cologne and Engerwitzdorf are invited to participate in a portfolio of media-challenges (such as UGC photo and film-riddles, multimedia quizzes, modern treasure hunting, digital storytelling, etc.). Successful completion of every activity earns points for the team and their region. The game board of the competition is a Web portal on the Internet that is called the Challenge Hub. Additionally, the IPTV-test households in Engerwitzdorf can play parts of the challenges on the IPTV-platform.
The game activities take place partly on the virtual platform, when teams solve the riddles and quizzes or upload their own content, and partly in real life, when participants produce their films or attend game and media caching events.
